Heartbeat!

Yes, we saw and heard the heartbeat for the first time this morning.  My doctor tried finding the heartbeat at first with the little doppler device (I think that’s what its called?) and could not find it over mine so she suggested we check with the radiology department for an ultrasound.  Luckily they were open this morning for appointments and we got in right away.  It was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!  Baby A’s heartbeat is at a very normal 171 bpm, and he/she was rolling around and kicking during the ultrasound.  A very active little Baby A, so I am thinking I may have an interesting 2nd and 3rd trimester if our little one keeps up with all the activity!

Needless to say we were both in awe as we watched the screen, we barely even uttered a word as we watched and listened to the specialist tell us what we were seeing.  She told us Baby A is about 1.5 inches long (short little squirt), and probably only about an ounce or two at most for weight at about 11 weeks and 2 days.  Even though he/she is so small we did come home with a souvenir string of 3 pictures for our first entry in the baby scrapbook.  If I can get our scanner up and running again, I will add one of the pictures to the blog.

Next appointment is in 4 weeks, just a minor checkup and then the next ultrasound will be at 20 weeks when we should be able to find out the sex, yes we plan to find out and let everyone know so keep checking back for updates!

Back Home

We arrived home from vacation at the cabin in Minong, WI earlier today and I think we need a vacation from our vacation.  Both of us are looking at our bags and not feeling a single ounce of motivation to unpack any of it.  So, we have spent some quality time with our cats (Mufasa & Nala) and even ran to the store to fill our fridge and cupboards again.

As far as vacation goes, we really did exactly what we wanted to do, which most of the time for me meant absolutely nothing due to the nausea, but we did get a round of mini golf in where we both ended up getting a hole in one (see pictures).  Andrew went with “the boys” to play real golf a couple times and is proud to say he never had to pull his pants down, where as other members of the gang did…I won’t say who, you know who you are!  :)   We only had a couple rainy days, and it wasn’t a complete rain out so we really can’t complain.  There were many late nights chatting, drinking and playing poker (not by me of course).

Overall we’re glad to be home, still feeling nauseous and hoping that subsides relatively soon coming into the 12th week.  Our appointment to hear the heartbeat is Tuesday, so I will update everyone on our experience that evening, until then Have a good one!

Bring on the Mexican Food!

Not too much new news to report, other than the “morning sickness” has not subsided, but I may have found my own cure, yes, believe it or not Mexican food makes me feel better.  I tried all the other remedies like crackers, pretzels even my favorite pasta.  Nothing does it for me like a run to the border or to Q-doba for one of my favorite quasadillas.  So, if it works, I guess for now baby and I will be having Mexican on a regular basis until I feel better, which hopefully comes sooner rather than later.

I am officially about 9 1/2 weeks along and after some reading have found out Baby A is about the size of a grape or prune, depending on which site you look at.  Next week we will be at the cabin so I may have to pack some of my favorite Mexican dishes so I don’t feel like gagging on nearly everything that goes near my mouth.  Yes, even water does it, but I am trying to drink the recommended 10-12 glasses a day!  Yes, its not because of baby I am peeing all the time, its because they want me to drink so much dang water!  No wonder why I always have to be near a bathroom!

That’s all for now…Yo Quiero Taco Bell!

First Appointment

We had our first appointment this morning…nothing too dramatic, just what they consider the “OB Intake” appointment where a nurse asks about our family history, and other health related questions.  So overall it went just fine.  At the end they took some blood for tests and we went to work.

The “morning sickness” has been pretty bad the past few days, literally taken a couple notches up from what it was last week.  However, I have still been lucky enough to not experience any projectiles from my stomach which is always pleasant, but sometimes it feels so aweful that I would rather just vomit and get it over with.  Although, for whatever reason this afternoon and tonight I have been feeling pretty good so maybe the worst is over.  I will keep my fingers crossed!

Poor Andrew, had to put up with me last night when I was so sick and had to find something to eat for dinner, so we went to the local grocery store and spent $50 (where I purchased lettuce and other dinner items), then I went a block away to DQ for a salad.  Does that make sense?  No, but I did it anyways, and he thought I was crazy!

I haven’t noticed any cravings to this point…mainly just a queasy stomach so just trying to find something that sounds edible is bad enough.

We’re on our countdown to vacation on August 2nd, then when we get back we have our first OB appointment on the 12th where we will get to hear the heartbeat!  Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Hello family & friends!

This is our first attempt at blogging so here we go…

As most of you know, I peed on a stick on the morning of July 12th (and 13th) and needless to say there were two little pink lines (twice).  Although one line was darker than the other so we made the decision that the results were inconclusive until we went to the clinic on Monday, July 14th and they confirmed the positive.  Yes, we are pregnant with our first baby, for now we will refer to him/her as Baby A.

It is my parents first grandchild and Andrew’s parents 7th, so the families are growing by one more come February 26th, although I think it will be closer to March 1st.

I can honestly say I feel pretty lucky, I don’t have much “morning sickness” as long as I have a quick snack every 3-4 hours.  So, none of the typical vomitting or terrible nasea, I try to catch the nausea before it gets too bad.  We have our next appointment on Tuesday, July 22nd for our OB Intake/Educator, so technically not a doctor appointment, just some time to learn about what we’re supposed to be doing.  They told me at the clinic this past Monday that my first OB will be around 12 weeks, so around mid-August I should have more updates on the baby, other than just how I am feeling.

Other than that we’re looking forward to our upcoming vacation to the cabin in early August and I am spending this weekend doing the final edits on my Masters project and then I am officially done for good.  Whew!

As I go along I will also add some pics and more first time mommy experiences!
